The Different Types Of Spa Filtration

Each type of spa with spa aromatherapy has its type of filtration! This is what the manufacturers offer us. Be careful, though, with some brands that prioritize price over quality too much. The quality of the filtration will depend on the quality of your bathing water and the longevity of your spa.

The Different Filtrations For Spas

  • Filtration before filling: this filtration concerns inflatable and portable spas. This filter is placed upstream of the filling pipe and retains bacteria and metals in the water. It is a filter that allows you to fill the spa with clear water and reduce the strain on the rest of the filtration. It requires regular cleaning.
  • Permanent filtration: it is provided by a pump that operates continuously independently of water circulation for the massage. In general, economical in its electricity consumption, its efficiency comes from continuous operation, leaving no room for pollutants. A spa equipped with this type of filtration will need fewer disinfectants, such as bromine. The filter is directly in the tank, ensuring the overflow action.
  • Pressurized filtration: it is provided by a pump that sucks the water from the spa to diffuse it through a filter. It is a system used in swim spas for the swim against the current. The power of the current generated requires a large volume of water suction, which can cause the stirring of impurities. It is therefore important to filter them efficiently. These filter pumps have a relatively short lifespan because they are very stressed, and maintenance is quite expensive.
  • Remote filtration: this is valid for built-in or overflow spas when the filtration is not in the spa but a technical room located a little further. The installation is not that complicated. It requires some plumbing, which will lead the overflow water from the spa to the filter system in the technical room. Filters are generally cartridge type and can be cleaned. The art of good operation consists of not placing the technical room too far to have too much pressure loss. In these cases, a more powerful pump must be installed.
